Government Services To Utilize Single Paybill For Payments

In an effort to streamline the payment of government levies, the National Treasury has introduced a new single paybill number. This initiative aims to centralize the payment process and facilitate convenient transactions for Kenyans through the government’s online payment portal, eCitizen.

Addressing the ongoing dispute with the operators of eCitizen.go.ke, the State firmly stated that the platform and domain are solely owned by the Kenyan government.

To further enhance accessibility, the digital payments platform has been integrated with all major electronic payment services in Kenya, including mobile money payment options.

“The Government of the Republic of Kenya has developed the eCitizen.go.ke Digital Payments Platform through which citizens and all persons will be able to pay for government services,” said Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u in a gazette notice published yesterday.

“eCitizen.go.ke is a wholly owned domain and portal of the Government of Kenya. eCitizen.go.ke is the official Government Digital Payments Platform.”

Under this new system, numerous government services have been consolidated within the platform, leading to tens of thousands of transactions taking place each month.

The Treasury disclosed its plans to gradually migrate additional services to the online payment portal, coinciding with the unveiling of a universal paybill number.

“All payments for Government services shall progressively be made through eCitizen.go.ke. The official Government of Kenya Pay Bill Number is 222222,” said the CS in the notice.

When utilizing the portal, users are presented with an invoice for the desired services. Subsequently, payment can be made through mobile money platforms using the government’s paybill number.

Once the transaction is completed, the system promptly reflects the payment and generates a printable receipt for the user’s records.

Services available through the portal encompass a wide range of government offerings, including motor vehicle ownership, land searches, and birth and death registrations.
